    Verbs with dative object pronoun

    When do you use "mir" (dative) and when "mich" (accusative) ?

    That depends on the main verb of the sentence.

    Almost all German verbs prefer the accusative forms (mich), but there are some which prefer the dative forms (mir).

    Here are five of them:

    antworten = to answer

    danken = to thank

    gehören = to belong to

    glauben = to believe

    helfen = to help

    With these verbs you use mir, dir, ihm, ihr, uns, euch, ihnen.
